Hello! My name is Jill Pelto, I am an Artist and a Science Communicator.
I am 30 and currently based in Richland, Washington. I grew up in Massachusetts, lived in Maine for a decade, and New Mexico briefly.
My work focuses on communicating human-environment connections. I incorporate scientific data directly into my paintings to engages broad audiences with climate change graphs. Iām passionate about outreach and collaboration, and work with students and adults around the country in creating their own data-art.
I completed a Masters of Science in August 2018, focused on studying the sensitivity of the Antarctic Ice Sheet to changes in our Earth-Climate system. I underwent this degree at the University of Maine, where I also completed B.A. degrees in Studio Art and Earth Science. I have conducted research on the mountain glaciers of Washington and British Columbia, in the Dry Valleys and Transantarctic Mountains of Antarctica, in the Falkland Islands, and in New Zealand.
I am available for collaborations, commissions, and discussions.
